black light use in theater

So I'm working on a show at my small non-profit theater. And we are wanting to incorporate black lights into the show. However, we have not much of a budget to work with and was wondering if anyone had any ideas on making this happen. The costume and set designer wants to use black light paint on the back drop and costumes. So we would need enough light to get the effect.

I'd appreciate any ideas that anyone has.

Thanks!

Honestly, the only way to do it any justice is to rent a couple wildfires. You're not going to find anything cheap that will actually throw long enough to hit the entire backdrop. Wildfires are strong enough for you to wash the entire stage (one from each side so you don't get too much non-fluorescent shadow). That's what I'd suggest. It may still be out of your budget...have someone lend you a couple!

Agreed - Wildfire's the way to go. Altman 400 watt units will be cheaper and will work but not get the punch. Fluorescent bulbs won't throw far enough to cover the stage even if you have at the top and bottom of the cyc it won't reach the middle.
