So needless to say, I have a very small budget.
If you're interested in discussing this more, please send me a message, because I don't get a chance to log onto tribe very often.

The costume and set designer wants to use black light paint on the back drop and costumes. So we would need enough light to get the effect.

I will be selling at least 8 units, and am asking $600 for each of them, in any quanity. I am willing to work on delivery in TX if enough units are bought. I can ship, but the shipping will be extra, and these babies are heavy. They would have to be delivered by freight truck.

They will not include any lamps, clamps, or cases...and will be guaranteed to be fully functional upon receipt/pickup. Beyond that, there are no warrties for the units.

I want to program through slow color transitions independently at the same rate; ie. the inside is red, the outside is blue...slowly changing through the spectrum.

I don't know if this is the place to ask but I figure it can't hurt. I have built this crazy art piece for burning man that needs around 360 leds. I am going to have 4 differant circuits that require a string of 90 leds each . I figure I have to wire them in series/parallel. I was hoping to use a deep cycle 12V car battery to power all of these LEDs. 270 of these leds are 3.6 V 30 mA RGBs and 90 of them are 4.5 V 30 mA UV LEDSs. So my questions are 1. Will a 12 V deep cycle car battery power all these LEDs for 10 hours at a time? 2 Is the series/parallel method best for this project and conserving energy? and 3. I will be hot gluing the led lens and then sticking them into a clear film canister so will this cause to much heat? Keep in mind these will be used at night time at around 45 to 60 degrees while flying through the air. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I need to have this done within the next week. If there is someone whoe has extra time to talk to me my number is 719 439 6433 call me ANY time. Or email me. Thanks

I've never worked with color scrollers (welcome to my off-off-Broadway below 14th Street low budget world) and am currently working on a show that is running with a rep plot. They have half a dozen WYBRON 'ForeRunner' scrollers, which will be anywhere from 10' to 30' from the audience's ears. Its a one man show with not many sound cues to have the scrollers change colors during. Will these units be noticeably audible by the audience? With the gel strings they have in them, I can get away with changes that are two colors away on the stings if that would help a lot. I can also work with having them scroll to one color between shows and only using one static color on each as the LD of the theater has given us a very generous plot to work with otherwise. But, of course, I'd love to make much more use of them if the noise wouldn't be a distraction to the audience. Advice please from those who have worked with these?

This is what I need: A simple set and forget lighting system, Along the lines of a Highend Trackspot(In fact right along the lines of a Trackspot.) No more than 250 watts, scanner type(moving mirror), no need for a controller(sound to light movement), and of course inexpensive, and this is for a night club, No American DJ or Pro Audio.
The reason is the 10 Trackspots I have now are 12 years old and Highend has discontinued that line(why I don't know, great light). So the owner of the club doesn't want to fix the Trackspots do to the fact that they are now discontinued. So I need to get some new lights. I was looking at the Martin MX-10, Does anyone have any other suggestions?

I have been painfully putting together a light show for us and we play different size bars, so we need some flexibility. Does anyone know of a software package that shows you lights as you place them (around drums, stage, etc) and that would give you some template ideas or something like that? Like a lighting theme or similiar?

Most of the software packages that I have found either do one of two things. (1) - Design the light show for programattic reasons (to hook up with DMX controllers and run the show). or (2) - Design light show with 3d rendering or information of the sort.

I really am not looking for either one of these. I just would like to be able to put something together for layout or as if you were looking towards the stage. Almost like a Visio template if you will.

The lights are 6 fresnels, 4 halogen work lights (for cyc colors) a clip light and another little fixture they had hanging around that took standard household base floodlamps. The dimming was a 6 channel single scene board and two 600 watt household dimmers in 2 gang boxes. The stage is approximately 36 x 20 deep.

All in all, though it would have been nice to have more I'm pleased with the outcome. The word that comes to mind is delicate, which is quite a shock considering that most of the fresnels are open full

So... The question to you is. What is the least number of lights you have used in a design and still been pleased (or even OK) with the results?

My name is Jasin Fell. I am an extremely frustrated RAWK performer who currently resides in the so-cal climes. I like it here, strangely enough, but it looks as though I may have to crawl back up to my native Portland due to certain financial factors piling up against me.
Allow me to cut to the relevant part: I have some fairly extensive experience with lighting, in design, operation and a little in film. When I was 19 I had eight bands on my roster until grunge hit and effectively killed my entire business. Everyone was suddenlt too cool for strobe lights and none wanted to hear of my creative solutions regarding this new fashion, or lack thereof. Anyhow, I quit and surrendered to the stage performance side of things. I formed several bands and I like that alot. But I never let lighting go. I miss the smell of hot par cans and melting gels. Antiquated terms I realize but you get the idea. I was active up until the High End/Lightwave revolution. I have always, and probably always will, consider lighting in my top two favorite mediums to work with. Writing/Lighting.. it's hard to say.
Anyhow, my dillemma is this: I have been stuck in Orange County, CA in a couple stale corporate jobs and now I'm looking to things like no-money retail jobs just to work with "real" people in a non paper-chase environment for a change. In the movies they always tell you to "follow your dreams", yet it seems like this is a vision reserved for the privileged. I just want to know, before I move 1000 miles away from this apparent mecca of film, music and it's attached industries, if anyone here has any advice, or contacts, systems, or institutions in mind for me to get ahold of to make some very good use of my very real and earnest talents in this field. I have done some crawling on craigslist.org, but I rarely, if ever see any true industry listings on there.
Anyhow, sorry to rant, thank you for reading.
Any discourse on the matter I am sure, would be helpful.
Thanks,
Jasin

PS. I have some downright revolutionary ideas following the now permanent national ban on pyro, if I may say so myself.
Not to mention some applications of dataflash, and various intelligent lighting that I still have yet to see.
Let's chat.

I've had some crazy ideas involving LEDs over the years... but this one in particular warrants further investigation.

Has anyone seen, or can think of, a cost-effective way to trigger a single LED to fire wirelessly? I have some ideas i would love to actualize that are somewhat dependent on this being possible. The cheaper the better, and preferably a method that allows for independant control of 100-5,000 of them. :)

I've considered tiny controller boards that obtain IP addresses on an 802.11 network, then control them using broadcast packets, but think that is probably alot more complicated than it needs to be. My second instinct was some way to use a small band of the radio spectrum at low power. Maybe there is circuitry out there that would respond to a single frequency??

Any help appreciated.

I have a show on Friday and the temps are likely to be in the 40s and just wondering if I'm going to get that cool ground hugging fog I am looking for or it, because there might not be that great a difference between the fog and the outside air I am just going to get a smoky mess...
[sarcasm/] Yeah... outdoor shows on a shoestring budget [/sarcasm]
